In my outrage over the Venezuelan handshake last night, I neglected a couple of other events that have me really steamed. Luckily, I don’t suffer from high blood pressure otherwise I would be dead! In chronological order, the bow to the Saudi king. Was it a bow – wasn’t it a bow. . .IT WAS A BOW!! No doubt, and equivocating is just making it worse. The official White House response is that he was just bending over to grasp the hand of a much shorter man. Well he didn’t do that to the Queen of England! There is no question that he feels these kind of gestures will endear him to our enemies. Sadly, I agree with him.
Then, the report by the Department of Homeland Security. In case you haven’t heard, the DHS is very concerned about right wing extremists using the economy and the election of the first black President for recruiting purposes. The report in total is available here. For the record, I tried to get this document from the official DHS website, but it is unavailable there. Apparently, it was not for general consumption. This is a document that was supposed to be covertly distributed to law enforcement and other government officials around the country. It classifies right wing extremists as, “those that are mainly antigovernment, rejecting federal authority in favor of state or local authority, or
rejecting government authority entirely. It may include groups and individuals that are dedicated to a
single issue, such as opposition to abortion or immigration.” Wow! Guess I’m a terrorist. Do you think you can narrow that down a bit? Oh good, they did: “military veterans facing significant challenges reintegrating into their communities.” WHAT?!?!?
Ok, so right wing extremists are anyone who believes in the conservative principles of smaller government, right to life, and those who have worn the uniform of our nation and put their lives at risk defending it?!? Take a breath. . .breathe. . .breathe. . .Whew indeed! So imagine my interest when the DHS Secretary appeared on Fox & Friends this week to address this issue.
When she was asked about the inclusion of returning veterans from Afghanistan and Iraq as potential domestic terrorists, she responded, “they are owed an apology.” Ok, soooo. . .when will that be coming. Hello? Nope, no apology. Not only didn’t she apologize after admitting there should be one, she went on to DEFEND THE INCLUSION OF VETERANS IN THE REPORT!!! (breathe. . .breathe. . .) She said it was meant as an assessment of possible actions based on past events. She then talked about her involvement in the Timothy McVeigh case since it fell in her jurisdiction at the time. Ok, that’s one. Any others? Any indication that there are MORE veterans who want to act out violently against the government than anyone else? Studies? Research? Something? Nope.
So Gretchen asks her about how she felt about it personally and she admitted SHE HADN’T EVEN READ THE REPORT!!! (BREATHE! BREATHE!!) She then complains that the media people are too ignorant to understand her since they aren’t part of the intelligence community. Who does she think she answers to? Just people in the intelligence community? Of course the answer is – no one! You get the point here, though. They are putting out propoganda based on their own personal political biases and calling it an “assessment.” Even when they are called on it, they admit it was wrong to do it then do it anyway.
So with all this outrageous behavior going on, I have to admit I got a little caught up in what I like to call “the general consensus.” At the end of my last blog I said I hoped Mr. Obama was smarter than letting Mr. Chavez use him to help destroy America. This is because I, like you, find it hard to believe that it is possible that the President of the United States would actively coddle up to our enemies. The general consensus is he’s made a mistake or he’s unaware of this or that. The truth is he’s not unaware, not stupid, not erroneous. . .it’s intentional and we should treat it as such!
So now after all this outrage and heavy breathing, there was one apolitical, heartwarming moment which I would love to share with you. Her name is Susan Boyle and she is a contestant on Britain’s Got Talent. Take a look and listen. . .
This is what I like to call the triumph of the human spirit! Well done, Susan!
